Medical Mutual of Ohio Screening Program

A first-of-a-kind, three-year, community-wide wellness initiative is being launched in the city of Solon by Medical Mutual of Ohio, a leading provider of Ohio individual health insurance. Called "Healthy Solon," this project involves screening citizens for illness, tabulating data on illnesses and the rate of occurrence, and recording the results of any treatments people choose to undergo.

Paula Sauer, Medical Mutual's vice president of Care Management, said the health of Solon residents will be tracked over the duration of the three-year wellness initiative.

"Through an early health risk assessment (HRA), residents will have the opportunity to identify a potential health issue," said Sauer. "Health awareness and early detection programs will figure prominently in the first year of the pilot program. Solon residents will be offered blood pressure and cholesterol screenings, along with heart disease, diabetes, lung, skin and prostate cancer screenings," said Sauer. "Residents will also be encouraged to take part in walking for wellness programs, cooking and nutrition demos, smoking cessation, and stress prevention."

While Medical Mutual will not be including treatment or medication for any illness discovered during the screening process, it will advise participants of treatment options, allowing them to assess their Ohio healthcare insurance plan for appropriate inclusion

Sauer said at the conclusion of the three-year pilot program, benchmarks will have been established to measure the health of Solon citizens and the overall success of this effort. "Through screenings and HRA's, if we identify one person at risk or get one person to quit smoking, we will have done our job," said Sauer.

In addition to Medical Mutual, others supporting Healthy Solon include: Cleveland Clinic Solon Family Health Center, Solon City Schools, Hillcrest Hospital, South Pointe Hospital, AstraZeneca and Pfizer.

Senator Obama's health insurance reform plan promises to revamp the way Americans view their health.

Obama would create the National Health Insurance Exchange, a nationwide marketplace where insurance companies sell private health plans. The federal government will regulate the Exchange so prices stay competitive and fair. Public coverage will be administered through the Exchange, as well.

Senator Obama also will require that insurance companies accept all applicants regardless of health history or pre-existing conditions.

All Children Must Be Covered

Obama's plan will not mandate that all Americans have health insurance, but all children up to age 18 will be required to have coverage. Under his plan, Medicaid and the State Children's Health Insurance Program (SCHIP) will be expanded to provide insurance for more children.

Employers must also offer coverage for their employees. If they choose not to insure their employees, they will be required to pay a percentage of their payrolls toward a national health plan. Some small businesses will be exempt from this law.

Preventive Care, Quality Care, and Cost

A major part of Obama's plan puts a strong focus on preventive care and improving public health. He will require that all preventive care services – such as doctor office visits and physical exams – are covered by every health plan. Senator Obama will also emphasize disease management programs.

To improve the overall quality of health care in the U.S., Obama will change the way health care providers are paid. Doctors and hospitals will be paid based on the quality and effectiveness of the care they provide. He will also invest in electronic health records to improve the system's efficiency and cut down on administrative costs.

Obama's plan will cost between $50 – $60 billion. To help fund the plan, he will roll back President Bush's tax cuts for Americans earning more than $250,000 a year. Senator Obama will also reduce tax exemptions for large corporations, and reinstate a form of the estate tax.

Sejarah

BAHWA setelah Indonesia memasuki era reformasi, Indonesia belum keluar dari krisis multidimensi, malah semakin dililit kesulitan. Karena itulah kami Peserta Rapat Kerja Nasional PBSD pada hari ini, Minggu, 1 Mei 2005 mendirikan Partai Buruh. Potensi Besar bagi Partai Buruh

ORGANISASI Buruh Internasional atau ILO dalam laporannya tentang tren ketenagakerjaan dan sosial di Indonesia tahun 2008 menyebutkan, sebanyak 4.516.100 dari 9.427.600 orang yang masuk pengangguran terbuka pada Februari 2008 adalah lulusan SMA, SMK, program diploma, dan universitas. Rendahnya daya adaptasi lulusan sekolah formal dalam memenuhi tuntutan pasar kerja kian menjadi persoalan mengatasi pengangguran (Kompas, 22/8).

Jumlah penduduk berusia 15 tahun ke atas, di seluruh Indonesia, yang saat ini menjadi buruh, karyawan, atau pegawai, menurut data Badan Pusat Statistik (Februari 2008), adalah 28.515.358 orang. Pekerja bebas di sektor pertanian dan nonpertanian berjumlah 10.929.337 orang. Jumlah ini pasti bertambah besar jika ditambah dengan jumlah warga di negeri ini yang bekerja sebagai pekerja keluarga atau berusaha sendiri.

Jika saja Partai Buruh memerhatikan mereka yang hingga kini belum mempunyai pekerjaan, dan meraih suara sepenuhnya dari mereka, sebenarnya sudah cukup bagi partai yang didirikan dan dipimpin Muchtar Pakpahan itu untuk melenggang ke Senayan dan menjadi peserta Pemilu 2014. Dengan mengacu Pasal 315 Undang-Undang (UU) Nomor 10 Tahun 2008 tentang Pemilu Anggota DPR, DPD, dan DPRD, parpol yang meraih 3 persen kursi DPR atau 4 persen kursi DPRD provinsi atau kabupaten/kota, yang tersebar di setengah jumlah provinsi atau setengah jumlah kabupaten/kota se-Indonesia, ditetapkan sebagai peserta Pemilu 2014. Pasal 202 Ayat 1 UU itu juga menegaskan, hanya partai yang meraih minimal 2,5 persen dari jumlah suara yang sah, yang diperhitungkan dalam penentuan kursi di DPR.

Angka 4,5 juta penganggur terdidik, jika bisa digaet seluruhnya oleh Partai Buruh, sudah lebih dari 4,36 juta pemilih (2,5 persen dari jumlah pemilih pada Pemilu 2009 yang terdaftar Komisi Pemilihan Umum, yakni 174.410.453 orang). Jika Partai Buruh bisa meraup 4,5 juta suara penganggur terdidik itu, bisa dipastikan lebih dari 3 persen dari 560 kursi di DPR juga diraih. Angka itu akan lebih tinggi lagi jika Partai Buruh bisa meyakinkan semua penganggur terbuka dan pekerja, termasuk petani di negeri ini.

Namun, hal itu tidak mudah. Selain suara buruh, petani, dan penganggur juga diincar partai lain, Partai Buruh harus diakui masih kurang dikenal publik. Partai Buruh tak bisa leluasa memperkenalkan diri kepada rakyat karena, seperti diakui Muchtar Pakpahan, terkendala dana. Padahal, dana adalah sumber "napas" parpol dan politisi.

Potensi suara bagi Partai Buruh memang besar. Tetapi, hadangannya juga besar.
